Pizza is the first thing that comes to my mind when oregano is mentioned. Oregano is an herb that adds a sweet aroma and flavor to meals. It features in Mediterranean diets and many recipes.

It is a good source of vitamin B6, potassium ad copper. Other important nutrients are dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, calcium, iron, and manganese. I guess it will not be surprising to let you know that there are many health benefits associated with oregano.

Besides adding flavor to meals, oregano has a lot of health benefits like boosting weight loss, healing skin diseases, reducing inflammation, aiding proper digestion and a lot more benefits in this wonder herb.

Oregano is an herb from the mint, or lamiceae family and is a native of temperate Western and Southwestern Eurasia but most commonly in the Mediterranean region. It is a perennial herb that grows from 20-80cm tall and has purple flowers.

Oregano is consumed in various forms; fresh, dried, oregano tea leaves and in oil form.

Oregano tea can only be unsafe if it is taken by people with special conditions. It can have side effects when it is taken by expecting mothers as it may induce a miscarriage. Therefore, for pregnant women, oregano tea is not safe at all.

Oregano tea can cause an upset stomach if more than four cups are taken in a day. And in rare cases, oregano tea can cause allergic reactions to some people. But generally, it is safe to take oregano tea every day.

Can oregano cause a miscarriage?

During pregnancy, oregano is not recommended to be taken as it may cause a miscarriage. Women who experience irregular or absence of menstruation are prescribed the use of oregano as a supplement to their medications.

Oregano is able to stimulate menstruation periods for this reason; it is not advisable to take oregano if you are pregnant.

The ability of oregano to stimulate menstruation poses a threat to your uterus to lose the unborn baby. For this reason, try to avoid oregano if you are an expectant mother or during the times you expect to conceive.
